LSE Cities Illustration Project

I was commissioned by LSE Cities to create an illustrative project that sought to preserve the thoughts, feelings and desires of 5 young apprentices from the LSE Seen and Heard project, a legacy of the Brent London Borough of Culture 2020 programme.

The apprentices were tasked with a designing a physical, outdoor space for young people to use within Wembley Olympic way. Considering challenging, physical limitations of this, I decided to curate this project around the idea of a ‘speculative’ Wembley, based off of the weeks of zoom meetings and planning conservations that took place. This was in addition to my own external research, as a Brent based creative who was born and raised in the area.

The themes of community, sustainability and retaining ’Brentishness’ were the focal point of the conversations, so this was encapsulated within the final 5 illustrations.

Given that illustration does not have to have limits embedded in realism, these artworks seek to reflect a wider, truthful narrative pertaining to the way young people respond to changes within their community and what they wish to see.
