Our Local Hero

Working with Beyond the Box, I was selected as a member of the Cultural Impact Team for St Raphael’s estate, investigating the needs of the community through quantitative and qualitative research methods. Through this process we were able to inform Karakusevic Carson Architects who were providing a fund for the community and needed to know how best it could be dispersed.

Many residents expressed interest in sports activities, and in lieu of my own professional sector, creative engagement. Given my proximity as a resident to the area, on top of the additional strength of workshop production understanding, I decided to apply for the fund and was successful.

I facilitated creative workshops for children titled ‘Our Local Hero’, launched in February. All components including marketing, budgeting and branded content material, were produced and ideated by me.

Our Local Hero was a series of four creative comic book making workshops aimed at children who are in Key Stage 2 - aged 7-10.

The goal was for the children to create an A4 comic booklet transforming someone who inspires them in their lives into a ‘superhero’. This can be a family member, a teacher, a friend or even themselves.

We had attendees from as far as West Ham, Croydon and Enfield with an average of 10 children per class.
